A new private family house on a rocky woodland plot — dark vertical timber cladding, a single-pitch roof, full-height glazing to the south and a sheltered terrace, built from foundations to handover by one team.
The plot was uneven bedrock with mature trees the family wanted kept, so the foundation had to be set precisely rather than levelled by brute force. The design leaned on large glazed openings, which meant the envelope had to stay airtight and warm through a Baltic winter without spoiling the clean lines.
We set the foundations to the rock profile, kept the tree line intact and built the timber frame with a continuous insulation and vapour layer detailed around every opening. Cladding, roof, terrace and external steps were sequenced as one package, and the approach path and gravel beds were laid before handover so the house was finished outside as well as in.
A warm, quiet, low-maintenance family house delivered on a fixed written scope: sharp dark facade, deep-set glazing, sheltered outdoor living and a site that still looks like the woodland it was built in.
